About us

The King’s Health Partners Clinical Trials Office (KHP-CTO) is a collaboration between King’s College London, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. Established to provide a single interface for those wishing to conduct clinical research within the partner organisations, and to ensure that there are common, efficient processes for the set up and administration of clinical trials.

About the role
  • To lead contract and budget negotiations when a study contract needs amending
  • To set up a small portfolio of straightforward clinical trials, which includes reviewing contractual and financial terms
  • To deliver outstanding customer service to investigators, companies, and contract research organisations, taking care to be responsive and to manage expectations
  • To build relationships with investigators, companies, and contract research organisations by proactively arranging calls using Microsoft Teams, and proactively making phone calls
  • To review and negotiate clinical trial budgets and contracts in accordance with the National Contract Value Review process and ensure accurate completion
  • To lead the collection and preparation of documentation required to confirm local capacity, obtain R&D theme lead approvals, and collate the regulatory approvals needed to instigate straightforward clinical trials
  • To assist in maintaining the records of the clinical trial portfolios of the Partner Organisations, specifically using the EDGE system
  • To ensure that clinical trials metrics are collected to permit tracking of milestones
  • To maintain a working knowledge of prevailing regulations, guidance, best practices and GCP standards regarding the conduct of clinical trials
  • To ensure confidentiality of commercially sensitive information and that data protection imperatives are respected

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

This is a full time (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

1.      Relevant experience of commercial clinical trials within the NHS and/or Industry

2.      Strong communication skills, including possessing the confidence to proactively engage with stakeholders (making ad hoc calls), negotiate, and influence

3.      Excellent organisational and time management skills

4.      The ability to build successful working relationships and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders

5.      The ability to work to SOPs and local working processes

6.      High level of attention to detail

7.      Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to think analytically

8.      Strong computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel

Desirable criteria

1.      Experience of setting up commercial clinical trials

2.      Knowledge and understanding of the required governance for clinical trials

3.      Knowledge and understanding of the model commercial contract templates and NCVR
