Fixed term, 4 years
Applications are invited for the post of Scientific Computing Officer. This role is within a small team, supporting and implementing the latest open-source technologies running on Linux servers used for High Performance Computing and distributed scale-out storage. You will share responsibilities for a client environment encompassing Linux, Mac and PC systems, ensuring optimal performance whilst maintaining security. You should have support/development experience in either a commercial, academic or research environment, and practical knowledge of scripting languages such as bash or perl. Hands-on experience of clustered file systems (eg ceph) and job scheduling systems (eg slurm) is desirable but not essential. The majority of software used is open-source, so you will need good problem-solving skills. Many of our systems are built in-house from the component level up, so this is an opportunity to appreciate every level of the scientific computing stack. You should have strong creative, team working and communication skills, and be able to organise and prioritise work independently. This position will suit an inquiring person, wishing to lead projects and build skills on a large number of platforms and systems.
Informal enquiries can be made to Jake Grimmett, 01223 267019 or <jog@mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk>
