The Opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

We have a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) opportunity for a motivated Professor or Associate Professor of International Business to make significant impact and develop their career in teaching, research and service. We are particularly interested in applicants who can contribute to our teaching and research in different areas of International Business, including international management, cross-cultural management and global strategy. Applicants with specific expertise related to digitalisation and technology are particularly welcome to apply. We are also looking for candidate who have demonstrated academic leadership capability – either related to research capacity building and/or strategic leadership at the department level (i.e., heads or deputy heads of departments or schools).

Deliver transformative student experiences by combining local and global knowledge and perspectives and join our supportive research environment with generous internal contestable funding, conference funding and support for external grant applications.

You'll teach across programmes as assigned by the Head of Department, particularly in the new Master of Global Business. You will also contribute to programme and course development, including in areas related to curriculum (re-) development and assessment design. We embrace practice-led, as well as research-informed, approaches to teaching where the student experience is enhanced. You will be expected to publish in top-‑tier journals (i.e., A and A* in the ABDC ranking or ABS3 and above in the CABS rankings), supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research and actively seek and attract external research funding. You’ll provide mentorship to other colleagues in both research and teaching, contribute to School and Faculty activities, and show openness to take up a future substantial leadership role as opportunities arise.

About you | Ko wai koe

As an academic member of staff at AUT, you’ll blend teaching, research and engagement to create outcomes that have real impact on the world. You’ll work closely with students, collaborate across disciplines and contribute to projects alongside our industry and community partners.  With room to experiment, develop your skills and refine your practice, you’ll be supported to make impactful contributions to both learning and discovery.

You will bring an open, engaging, and collaborative approach, with the flexibility to respond to changing requirements, and actively contribute to a positive and collegial environment. You will demonstrate cultural awareness and respect when engaging with indigenous peoples and culturally diverse communities. Experience supporting indigenous, equity, or inclusion focused initiatives is desirable.

We welcome applications from senior international business academics with leadership experience. The selection criteria sought are: 

1. Qualification:

  • A PhD in International Business/International Management/Global Strategy, or a related field.

2. Teaching and Learning:

  • Substantial undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience in International Business, including course and assessment design, delivery, and coordination.
  • Ability to engage with students in innovative and engaging ways.
  • Ability to contribute to curriculum innovation and the development of high-quality course content.
  • Ability to design and deliver innovative assessment.
  • Proven ability to attract and supervise postgraduate research students.
  • Experience in executive education and teaching taught master’s programmes to international students is desirable.

3. Research and Scholarship:

  • Extensive experience leading International Business research, with a strong publication record in top-tier journals (A or A* in the ABDC journal ranking or ABS3 and above in the CABS ranking).
  • Established international research networks and demonstrated potential or experience securing external research funding.
  • Proven ability to build and sustain collaborative research partnerships across academia and industry.
  • Editorial board membership and/or experience as an editor, guest editor or conference track chair.

4. Citizenship and Service:

  • Demonstrated academic leadership and service – either internally or externally.
  • Experience engaging internationally with industry, government, and community stakeholders to translate and apply research.
  • Proven ability to communicate research to non-academic audiences, including through media engagement.
  • A strong commitment to equity, with the capability to support the School’s Te Aronui
