Fixed-term 3 years
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Scientist to join Dr Ingo Greger’s laboratory at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB), Cambridge. The research focuses on AMPA glutamate receptors, using approaches spanning structural biology (cryo‑EM/cryo‑ET), cell biology, imaging, and electrophysiology.
The successful candidate will investigate the molecular basis of synaptic transmission mediated by functionally diverse AMPA receptors. We aim to delineate synaptic receptor signalling at the nanoscale. This project involves brain slice electrophysiology and super-resolution imaging of synapses, building on our structural, functional, and imaging studies (Herguedas et al., Science 2019; Zhang et al., Nature 2021, 2023; Watson et al., Nat Comms. 2021; Ivica et al., Nat Struct Mol Biol. 2024; Pokharna et al., Nature 2025; Scrutton et al., Science 2025 reviewed in: Greger et al., Neuron 2017; Stockwell et al., Bioessays 2024).
The role involves independent work and collaboration with groups at the LMB and University of Cambridge. There will be ample opportunity to learn and refine advanced techniques.
The ideal candidate should have a PhD in a relevant subject, or due to complete within 6 months, and experience with slice electrophysiology and imaging. Evidence of strong experimental skills is strongly desirable as well as creativity in problem solving.
Contact Ingo Greger for further details; ig@mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk.
