The University of Leeds is one of the top 75 universities in the world.  We have a truly global community, with more than 39,000 students from 170 different countries and over 9,000 staff of 100 different nationalities.  Established in 1904, we have a strong tradition of academic excellence, reflected in first-class student education, along with world-leading research that has a real impact around the globe.

You will support and undertake research in clinical trials in gastrointestinal cancer. Your research will focus on improving outcomes in the treatment of colorectal cancer throughout the continuum of multidisciplinary treatment and clinical therapeutics. In particular the candidate’s research will tackle the use of multi-modal assessments to develop clinically useful tools throughout the continuum of treatment. The candidate will investigate and validate tools using clinical data, circulating tumour biomarkers and pathological data to support clinical decisions. A key element of this work will be working across disciplines to make best use of the resources available and expertise in Leeds University. This includes (but not limited to) the GI Oncology Group, the Leeds Clinical Trials Unit, Leeds Imaging Group and GI pathology group. This will ensure both making use of available resources but also forward translation in active clinical research programmes in industry and academically funded trials. You will lead your own studies in this area, including methods development and clinical studies and contribute to the work of the research group as a whole.

During your employment you will also work towards an PhD at the University of Leeds.  This is an exciting opportunity if you are a medical oncology trainee, especially if you are aiming to sub specialise in gastrointestinal oncology or pursue an academic career. You will be medically qualified with MRCP or equivalent and full GMC registration.
