Manchester Metropolitan University – People & Organisational Development - Business Support

Are you an organised, proactive administrator who enjoys keeping things running smoothly and delivering excellent service? We're looking for an HR Business Support Administrator to join our People & Organisational Development (POD) Business Support Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in supporting senior leaders, coordinating departmental operations, and helping deliver strategic HR projects across the University.

About the Role

As our HR Business Support Administrator, you'll be at the heart of our POD operations. You'll be the first point of contact, ensuring our office environment runs efficiently and professionally. You'll support the Deputy Chief People Officer (DCPO) and their direct reports with high‑quality administrative support, diary coordination, meeting organisation and minute taking.

You'll also play a pivotal role in key departmental activity including onboarding new colleagues in POD, maintaining Health & Safety compliance, managing procurement requests, and keeping our intranet pages up to date. Alongside day‑to‑day operations, you'll contribute to strategic HR projects, working with colleagues across the wider POD team to support planning, monitoring and reporting.

This is a varied and highly visible role that requires excellent organisation, strong communication skills, and confidence handling sensitive information.

What You'll Be Doing

Operational & Administrative Support

  • Act as the first point of contact for POD Business Support, welcoming visitors and managing enquiries.
  • Provide dedicated administrative support to the Deputy Chief People Officer and direct reports, including diary management, meeting coordination and document preparation.
  • Support meetings with Trade Union representatives, including full logistics and minute taking.
  • Maintain POD office spaces, coordinate stationery and equipment requests, and oversee operational processes.

Coordinating Key Functions

  • Manage onboarding for new POD colleagues (desk set‑up, IT access, security passes, equipment).
  • Keep Business Support intranet pages up to date, working closely with content owners and Communications colleagues.
  • Raise and receipt procurement requests using the Oracle Procurement system.

Health & Safety

  • Act as Department Safety Coordinator for POD, ensuring all Health & Safety documentation and compliance requirements are met, including contributing to risk assessments and HASMAP activity.

Supporting Strategic HR Projects

  • Assist in planning, coordinating and tracking strategic HR projects.
  • Support evaluation activity and prepare updates and reports for key stakeholders.

About You

We're looking for someone who can bring strong organisation, attention to detail, and a customer‑focused approach. You will have:

Essential Skills & Experience

  • The ability to manage a busy and varied workload independently.
  • Confidence juggling multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience handling sensitive or confidential information.
  • Excellent written skills and the ability to produce accurate meeting minutes.
  • Strong IT skills across Microsoft Office and HR/administrative systems.
  • Experience of office administration, procurement processes, and working with senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Educated to Level 3 (or equivalent) with experience demonstrating strong literacy, numeracy and analytical skills.

Desirable

  • Experience coordinating projects or supporting strategic activity in a large organisation.

Why Join Us?

You'll be part of a supportive team that is focused on continuous improvement, collaboration and providing excellent service to colleagues across the University. You'll also benefit from:

  • Opportunities for professional development
  • A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
  • A focus on wellbeing, flexible working and sustainability
