This is an exciting opportunity to lead the University of Nottingham’s Customs Compliance processes as Customs Compliance Manager and be the university’s Subject Matter Expert in Customs. This role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with laws and regulations whilst maximising tax reliefs and minimising tax costs on imports and exports when moving goods across borders and making customs declarations. The role will be largely autonomous, with support from the wider team. The role will be a fixed term contract to 31 October 2027, to cover for maternity leave.
This role sits within the Tax Services team, whose role it is to ensure that the University of Nottingham complies with both UK and global tax legislation across a range of taxes, including VAT, payroll taxes, corporation tax and customs/duty, including preparing and filing tax returns and making correct tax payments. The team consists of subject matter experts in each major tax, with support from the Senior Tax Assistant and Tax Assistants, who work across the taxes.
About you
This role would be suitable for someone who has extensive experience in advising on UK customs and duty laws and/or who has extensive experience in making customs declarations. Experience of the Higher Education sector and relevant VAT reliefs and CPCs is desirable.
