About the Faculty
The Faculty of Science and Engineering combines research excellence with a strong commitment to growth, innovation and diversity in its educational activities. Public engagement, partnerships, cross disciplinary collaboration, and the generation of research with compelling public benefits have all been central to the Faculty’s work. Our academic schools work together effectively, generating excellent research, teaching and learning opportunities across science and engineering. Having grown rapidly in recent years, the faculty now generates around £200 million in annual income. Altogether there are over 14,000 students and 1500 staff across the Faculty, with many inter-departmental links. We deliver education to over 5,000 students in China, operating a “flying faculty” model.
About You
We are looking for a proactive and organised administrator with demonstrable experience of providing administrative support, ideally within a medium to large, complex organisation. You will have proven ability to manage a diverse workload, prioritise tasks effectively, and work efficiently under pressure to meet deadlines.
You will possess effective written and verbal communication skills, good IT proficiency (including Microsoft Office), and the ability to follow established procedures accurately and consistently. A flexible and collaborative approach is essential, as is the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Familiarity with financial and HR systems such as Agresso and Oleo is desirable, though not essential. A-levels or equivalent qualification (or equivalent experience) is required.
About the role
This is a full-time, indefinite role providing essential administrative support to Schools and Institutes within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Reporting to the Operations Officer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day execution of finance and HR administrative tasks, including raising purchase orders, processing expense claims, maintaining financial records, supporting the full employee lifecycle, and conducting pre-employment checks. You will act as the first point of contact for routine finance and HR queries, escalating complex matters as appropriate, and work collaboratively with colleagues across faculty and central teams to ensure seamless administrative delivery.
Please note that this post is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
About Queen Mary
At Queen Mary University of London, we believe that a diversity of ideas helps us achieve the previously unthinkable.
Throughout our history, we’ve fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence. And we continue to live and breathe this spirit today, not because it’s simply ‘the right thing to do’ but for what it helps us achieve and the intellectual brilliance it delivers.
We continue to embrace diversity of thought and opinion in everything we do, in the belief that when views collide, disciplines interact, and perspectives intersect, truly original thought takes form.
Benefits
We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities.
Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability. We are open to considering applications from candidates wishing to work flexibly.
