The Cancer Research UK City of London Centre was established in 2018 as a partnership between University College London, King’s College London, Queen Mary University of London, and The Francis Crick Institute. The Centre’s mission is to foster collaboration between cancer researchers at these four institutions, in order to transform cancer outcomes through effective biological therapies. About the role

The Communications Manager will work closely with the Centre Manager and the Centre Coordinator to support collaboration across the Centre.

The role-holder will be responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating all Centre communications, with the objective of driving engagement in the Centre’s research output, events, facilities, and funding calls. Communications should be appropriately tailored to the needs of internal and external audiences.

The successful candidate will deliver day-to-day social/digital communications, refresh and maintain the Centre website, and liaise with communications colleagues at Cancer Research UK and our four partner institutes to ensure alignment. The role-holder will also develop our longer-term communications strategy to engage internal and external audiences.

The Communications Manager should keep abreast of Centre activities and news for dissemination across communications channels.

This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require the right to work in the UK to carry out this role.

About you

Successful candidates must have an undergraduate degree, or equivalent and have a recognised marketing or communications qualification or equivalent professional experience.

Experience in evaluating marketing activity, and experience of developing and tailoring multi-channel communications for a range of audiences are essential for the role.

It is essential you have excellent IT skills (e.g., MS Office, Windows, social media platforms) and are a fluent internet user with a strong understanding of how websites work.

Experience in a communications role in higher education, life science, research funder or a related sector and experience in using WordPress are desirable but not essential.
