The role
We are seeking to appoint a Research Associate with a background in animal behaviour/welfare science to support a Wild Animal Initiative funded project. The aim of the project is to develop automated equipment to study welfare in wild squirrels, and research associate is required to assist with the design, fabrication, and refinement of apparatus. There is funding in place for the position until 30th April 2027.
What will you be doing?
You will be responsible for designing and building complex behavioural apparatus, liaising with team members to troubleshoot equipment issues, assisting with deployment of equipment in the field, and contributing to publications. The post holder will work with the PIs to ensure that the project adheres to all quality assurance schemes, University and funder rules and regulations, and Health and Safety.

You should apply if you have previous experience conducting animal behaviour or animal welfare research, previous experience of designing and fabricating research apparatus, including use of 2D/3D CAD modelling and laser-cutting, and python coding skills.
