About the Role

This position provides research support for grant management and audits for Academic and research staff in the department. The job will entails providing comprehensive administrative support for one of our large research groups including their conference, workshops, and travel requirements. The post-holder will work closely with the Department’s senior academic and administrative staff including the Head of Department and Director of Operations.

This is a busy and varied post which requires a person who can multi-task and work to deadlines. The post involves a high level of interaction with staff of all levels, and the post-holder must combine a professional approach with a friendly and welcoming manner.

This is a full-time permanent position. An agreed schedule will be set as the standard working pattern; however, flexibility regarding onsite days and working hours may be required on occasion by prior arrangement.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Preparation of audit reports and account reconciliations ensuring compliance in research grant awards and with sponsors’ terms and conditions.
  • Monitoring of grant claims to ensure compliance with regulations and dealing with queries on expenditure on claims with corroborating evidence.
  • Responding to queries from grant and contract holders, including responding to re-budgeting requests, responsibility for expenditure and budget limits, and dealing with budget reallocation.
  • To coordinate and distribute financial reports of the Group’s research portfolio, budgets and accounts, and take action where necessary.
  • To assist with timesheet completion for research projects, using research tools, as necessary, for reconciliations to hours worked and work packages.
  • Seminar workshop and conference organisation including registration of attendees, arranging accommodation and travel reimbursement for invited speakers, booking rooms and organising catering.

  • Build effective relationships across the Department and Faculty/College.
  • Work flexibly with other professional services colleagues to ensure continuity and resilience during busy periods.
