About the role
Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) Centre for Inflammation and Therapeutic Innovation (CiTI) invites applications for two non-clinical Career Advancement Fellowships (CAFs). CiTI is a leading interdisciplinary hub dedicated to understanding inflammatory diseases and translating discoveries into novel, patient-centred therapies. Fellows will join a vibrant community of world-class researchers, clinicians, and industry partners tackling challenges in rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune disorders, and chronic inflammation.
Fellows will undertake high-impact research at the intersection of inflammation biology, therapeutic development, and precision medicine, contributing to projects aimed at elucidating pathogenic mechanisms and identifying druggable targets. The programme provides training in interdisciplinary collaboration, translational research, grant writing, and research leadership, preparing fellows for independent scientific careers.
About you
Applicants should hold a PhD and have a few years of postdoctoral experience, preferably across multiple research-intensive environments other than QMUL for at least 3 years. Expertise in inflammatory diseases, particularly comorbidities associated with RA, is essential, along with experience in translational research, data analysis, and therapeutic pathway investigation. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, as well as a collaborative mindset, are required.
Application Requirement: Candidates must submit a prospective project proposal with their application, including identification of suitable CiTI Principal Investigators (PIs) who could act as mentors.
About the Centre
Although CiTI operates virtually, fellows will be physically based within the QMUL Institutes of their choice, benefiting from world-class facilities and the broader Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FMD) infrastructure. FMD is one of QMUL’s largest Faculties, comprising six Institutes, with c.420 personnel, a £60 million annual turnover, and £20 million in research expenditure, providing a rich environment for career development and collaborative research.
These fellowships offer a unique opportunity to advance both scientific discovery and translational impact in inflammatory disease research, within a supportive, interdisciplinary, and strategically aligned environment.
