Job description:
Are you a highly organised, motivated and proactive administrative professional with a passion for supporting research students? The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Sheffield is seeking a Postgraduate Research Support Officer to provide a high level of administrative support to our PGR students throughout their programmes of study, as well as academic colleagues who lead on PGR activities in schools. This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in the research student lifecycle, from initial enquiry through to graduation. You'll work closely with Senior PGR Support Officers, fellow PGR Support Officers, School PGR Leads and the Doctoral School Manager to ensure students are fully supported through their journeys.
What you'll be doing
This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy student-facing team with a varied and interesting workload. The Faculty’s PGR Administration Hub supports our postgraduate research students to achieve the aims and objectives of their research and get the most out of their time with us. You will provide crucial support to ensure that the administrative and supervisory teams provide the best service possible to all our students, helping them to succeed both in terms of their professional and personal development. We are looking for a highly organised individual who is able to work to deadlines and works well in a team environment. The Faculty is working to provide the best student experience possible for our postgraduate researchers and to increase our student numbers in line with the University’s strategy. This position will support these aims through the provision of an efficient administrative system to facilitate a successful student journey.
Who we're looking for
You will be adaptable and enthusiastic with a helpful manner, be able to act with discretion and diplomacy and to work collaboratively to provide an excellent customer service. We are looking for someone who will have a real commitment to the role, excellent time management skills and who is able to work on their own initiative, working methodically with a high level of accuracy, attention to detail and able to work at pace.
Our diverse community values unique abilities and backgrounds. Even if your experience doesn't perfectly align with every criterion, we encourage you to apply and highlight how your skills and experience are valuable to this role.
We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University.

We offer a fantastic range of benefits including a highly competitive annual leave entitlement (with the ability to purchase more), a generous pensions scheme, flexible working opportunities, a commitment to your development and wellbeing, a wide range of retail discounts, and much more.
