Technical Manager (Anatomy)

Canterbury Christ Church University – Anatomy Learning Centre

Canterbury Christ Church University invites applications from exceptional candidates to lead one of its most specialised technical teams in the role of Technical Manager (Anatomy).

You will oversee the delivery of high-quality technical support for teaching, research, and knowledge exchange activities within the Anatomy Learning Centre. Working closely with the Deputy Director Specialist Resources and Technical Services, academic leads from Kent and Medway Medical School and across the University, you will ensure a world-class learning experience for both staff and students.

About the Role

In this pivotal role, you will:

  • Act as the Person Designated under the Human Tissue Authority Licence (HTA).
  • Have extensive knowledge of the Human Tissue Act 2004 and the Human Tissue Authority including leading on the delivery of the standards outlined in Code C.
  • Provide operational leadership, ensuring the centre runs efficiently.
  • Work with the Deputy Director Specialist Resources and Technical Services to ensure the centre complies with all regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee health and safety management for the centre, ensuring all staff, students, and visitors work within safe, compliant environments.
  • Lead and inspire a team of technical staff, driving best practice, professional development, and operational excellence.
  • Work with the Deputy Director Specialist Resources and Technical Services to Shape the future of technical service provision through forward planning, business intelligence, and infrastructure development.
  • Build strong partnerships with academic colleagues to support teaching, research, and innovation.

About You

You will bring:

  • Proven experience in a similar technical role, ideally within a higher education or clinical setting.
  • Expertise in working with anatomical resources, including cadaveric material.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations (IOSH or NEBOSH qualification desirable).
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple teams and complex projects.
  • A proactive, solution-focused mindset and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.

Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. RSci or REng/ABTT) and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy are desirable but not essential.
