Job Synopsis
We are seeking an outstanding bioinformatician to join the Department of Biological Sciences, contributing to innovative teaching, high impact research, and academic leadership in bioinformatics, computational biology, and data driven life sciences. The role includes designing and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate modules, supervising research students, and developing a research portfolio that attracts competitive funding and fosters internal and external collaboration.
The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Limerick (UL) is a leading European centre for food and biological research and education. It hosts state of the art biomolecular, cellular and bioanalytical facilities supported by university investment and major national and international grants.
The Department includes 29 academics, 10 technical staff, three administrators, over 40 PhD students and 16 postdoctoral scientists working across diverse disciplines such as cell biology, protein chemistry, cancer, neurobiology, immunity, environmental biology, reproductive biology, equine science, food science and microbiology. Over the past two years, the Department has secured over €8¿million in competitive funding from Horizon Europe, Research Ireland, DTIF, DAFM, IRC, Enterprise Ireland, HRB, industry and others, accompanied by high impact publications, patents and disclosures. The Department offers multiple undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including the new Immersive Bioscience and Biotherapeutics (iBio) degree, and holds a Bronze Athena Swan award.
