Lecturer - Law (REC Pathway) - (9031)

Manchester Metropolitan University

Manchester Metropolitan University's Law School is recruiting and is offering outstanding opportunities for scholars committed to making a difference for our students and wider society through excellent education that transforms lives and high-quality, impactful research.

We are based within a fantastic global city and are a warm, supportive and inclusive Law School community. We were delighted to be awarded ‘Law School of the Year' in the Educate North Awards 2025 and to be part of the Times/Sunday Times ‘Modern University of the Year' 2026. We were awarded the Athena Swan Bronze Award in 2025, recognising our commitment to equality and inclusion. Our research has delivered impact in national and international legislatures, partnership work with the third sector, and attracted funding, including from UKRI, Wellcome, Leverhulme and the British Academy.

As part of the University's commitment to the continued growth of our successful Law School, we are seeking to appoint colleagues to join our strong and vibrant research community on the research and education pathway at Lecturer level.

Our key areas of research strength are:

  • Rights, Inequalities & Justice
  • Regulation & Sustainability
  • Sports & Creative Cultures

For this appointment, we are particularly interested in strengthening our research groups in Rights, Inequalities & Justice (RIJ) and Sports Law. RIJ encompasses a broad range of interests and methodologies, including research relating to LGBTQI+ communities, people seeking asylum, children's rights, caste discrimination, feminist legal scholarship, disability rights, hate crime, human rights defenders, witnesses of crime and human trafficking. Within Sports Law & Creative Cultures, we are keen to build on one of the largest and most established groups of academic sports lawyers in the country, with links to the University's Institute of Sport, leading law firms, and international partners.

We are looking for candidates with a developing track record of high-quality research and a clear research agenda, with the potential to contribute to internationally excellent outputs and to develop a strong longer-term research profile, including engagement with funding opportunities.

We have a number of priority teaching needs, particularly in Sports Law, Intellectual Property Law, Public Law, the Law of Tort, and EU / Free Movement Law. We are keen to hear from applicants who are enthusiastic about teaching in these areas and contributing to their development within the School.

More broadly, we welcome candidates with the knowledge and enthusiasm to contribute to our sector-leading legal technology modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level. All appointees will be expected to deliver high-quality teaching across core undergraduate modules, with opportunities to contribute to elective teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.

To apply, please submit your CV and covering letter via our application portal. For informal enquiries, please contact Andrew Francis (Dean of Manchester Law School) at Andrew.Francis@mmu.ac.uk
