Job Purpose 

The Programme Leader (PL) provides academic and operational leadership for the International BSc and MSc Business suites. The role is a hybrid position, combining programme management with high-quality teaching delivery. The PL is responsible for ensuring academic standards, international curriculum relevance, and a world-class student experience for a diverse global cohort. They lead the academic team to ensure students from various educational backgrounds successfully transition into UK Higher Education and achieve strong employability outcomes. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

Programme Leadership & Management 

  • Academic Oversight: Lead the delivery of the BSc and MSc Business programmes, ensuring the curriculum remains industry-relevant and globally focused.
  • Quality & Compliance: Oversee academic quality at both Level 6 and Level 7, ensuring all teaching and assessment activities comply with UHE’s academic regulations and the QAA Quality Code.
  • International Student Journey: Monitor international student progression and retention, implementing early intervention strategies for students struggling with the transition to the UK academic system.
  • Team Guidance: Provide academic leadership to Module Leaders and Lecturers, fostering a culture of excellence in international pedagogy.
  • Reporting: Lead on Annual Monitoring Reports (AMR) and Periodic Reviews, using data to drive continuous programme improvement.
  • External Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for external examiners, industry partners, and regulatory bodies related to the Business suite. 

Teaching and Learning 

  • Module Delivery: Deliver high-quality teaching across the BSc and MSc Business programmes (equivalent to approximately 2 days per week).
  • Postgraduate Supervision: Act as a lead supervisor for MSc dissertations and research projects, guiding students through complex business research methodologies.
  • Assessment: Design and mark assessments that are robust, fair, and tailored to the needs of international learners.
  • Pedagogical Innovation: Model best practices in the classroom, utilising the VLE (Moodle/Canvas) and interactive technologies to enhance the international student experience.
  • Office Hours: Maintain regular academic surgery hours to provide one-to-one support for students on specific module content. 

Person Specification 

Legal status 

  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS disclosure check or overseas equivalent 

Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree in Business, Management, or a related field.
  • Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) or willingness to achieve it.
  • PhD qualification (Desirable)
  • Senior Fellowship of the HEA (SFHEA). (Desirable) 

Experience

  • Experience teaching Business at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate (MSc) levels.
  • Proven experience in programme or module leadership, or equivalent academic coordination role.
  • Experience in curriculum design and assessment for international learners.
  • Experience of assessment management, moderation, and academic quality processes.
  • Experience in a Subject Lead capacity. (Desirable)
  • Experience working with international students. (Desirable)
  • Experience managing professional body accreditations (e.g., CMI, ACCA, CIPD). (Desirable) 

Knowledge 

  • Deep understanding of the UK HE Quality Code and QAA standards.
  • Understanding of the specific challenges faced by international students (e.g., academic writing, cultural adjustment).
  • Knowledge of international business trends and global job markets. (Desirable)
  • Familiarity with UKVI compliance in an academic context. (Desirable) 

Skills and abilities 

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate a diverse academic team.
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using VLEs (Moodle/Canvas) and data analytics tools. (Desirable)
  • Ability to build links with local and international business industries. (Desirable)
