The Discipline of Health Promotion invites applications for two part-time (0.5FTE), permanent contracts (Type A) for Lecturer- Practice Education Co-ordinator (PEC) posts in Social Care (Discipline of Health Promotion). 

The two post holders will be expected to jointly co-ordinate practice education placements on the BA Social Care part-time degree programme within the Discipline of Health Promotion. 

Practice placements are an integral part of the programme and students engage in practice education in each year of the 4-year programme. Placements will be managed to ensure an optimum match of students’ learning needs and placement availability. In addition to organising placements, the post holders will prepare students for practice education, through workshops and on-line learning and run preparation courses for Practice Educators. The postholders will liaise with Practice Tutors and Practice Educators to ensure effective practice education. Teaching, assessment and administration related to the programme will also be required. 

Candidates for this position must be registered with CORU Social Care Workers Registration Board (see CORU Website for further information). 

In addition, candidates must possess:

  • A PhD in social care or related area

OR  

  • A relevant postgraduate research qualification in social care (e.g. Masters) PLUS a minimum of five years’ relevant professional experience including a significant contribution to the field of social care in the Irish context PLUS a minimum of three years’ Third-level teaching experience in Social Care or a teaching qualification (the third-level teaching experience will be counted towards the total 5 years “relevant professional experience”). 

In addition to the above, experience of Social Care practice education coordination and formal experience of teaching are required and current and past involvement in research and a history of publication will be an advantage.

The post holders will contribute to the development of practice education on the BA Social Care Programme in line with the professional standards for Social Care, the competencies required for practice and accreditation of the programme by the Health and Social Care Professional Council (CORU).

Salary: €64,903 to €103,538 pro rata p.a. (applicable to new entrants effective from January, 2011)
