About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer in Protein/Macromolecular Engineering to join The Randall Centre for Cell and Molecular Biophysics to lead a dynamic and forward-looking programme in protein design and macromolecular engineering.  The post holder is expected also to have a growing profile in their area of expertise, with evidence of national esteem by the end of the three year probation period.

The post holder will deliver high-impact, interdisciplinary research in protein/macromolecular engineering, enabling the investigation of fundamental molecular properties and address real-world challenges — from developing new medicines and sustainable biomaterials to advancing diagnostics and industrial applications.

Embedded in the vibrant, highly collaborative environment of the Randall Centre within the School of Basic and Medical Biosciences, the post holder will contribute to the Department’s interdisciplinary mission, establishing an independent and externally funded research programme that synergises with and elevates our existing experimental capabilities. Through high-level innovative experimental and/or computational approaches, the postholder will contribute to our investigation of fundamental molecular properties and address critical real-world challenges. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, therapeutic discovery, sustainable biomaterials, advanced diagnostics, and industrial biotechnology.

This position offers:

  1. A collaborative structural biology and biophysics environment with strong technical support and shared expertise within the Randall Centre;
  2. Access to state-of-the-art protein and macromolecular characterisation facilities, as well as King’s core research infrastructure;
  3. Excellent opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration across King’s and with London partners;
  4. Support to develop an independent research programme and contribute to high-quality teaching and mentorship.

The post holder will have at the start of the appointment an established record of research excellence, evidenced by high-quality publications and emerging independence, potential to attract significant external research funding, a commitment to promoting a positive research culture, and experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.

Applications should include:

  1. a 1 page cover letter highlighting key scientific contributions, a brief summary of future plans and fit to the Centre,
  2. a CV with a full publication list,
  3. a research statement (up to 2 pages) and
  4. a teaching statement (up to 1 page).

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and the candidate will be offered an indefinite contract.
