The opportunity
Wimbledon College of Arts, part of University of the Arts London (UAL), is looking for an experienced academic to join us on our BA Costume for Theatre and Screen course, where you’ll play a key role in shaping the creative futures of students passionate about costume for theatre, film, television and live performance.
Based in the School of Performance, the BA Costume for Theatre and Screen course introduces students to the key skills and professional practice required to succeed in the ever-changing costume industry, providing specialist teaching in both costume design and costume interpretation. Students develop a strong understanding of the essential elements of costume, gain confidence in both traditional and innovative approaches to costume design and realisation and have the opportunity to explore new and emerging media, including digital presentation techniques.
As a Lecturer, you’ll contribute to curriculum development, deliver high-quality teaching and engage in ongoing scholarship within the subject area, ensuring that students are equipped with the skills, knowledge and confidence to succeed. You’ll work closely with the Course Leader to develop innovative approaches to teaching and learning, encouraging critical thinking and creative practice that challenges conventional approaches in costume design, construction and interpretation.
In addition to your teaching responsibilities, you’ll also provide academic and pastoral support to students, monitoring their progress and attendance while maintaining accurate records.
About you
The successful candidate will have experience of teaching and assessing in a Higher Education environment or possess equivalent professional experience in costume construction and interpretation.
You must also demonstrate evidence of teaching, knowledge exchange and/or professional practice that contributes to the advancement of relevant activity and is relevant to the goals of the Programme, College and University. Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills are also essential, along with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
