About the Role
Informal Queries
The Centre for Applications of Mathematical and Computer Sciences (CAMaCS) at the University of Warwick seeks to appoint a Research Software Engineer in Digital Innovation to join their multidisciplinary team to assist in the delivery of a broad range of research projects with a variety of external partners from Business, Industry, and Government.
CAMaCS aims to seed and cultivate impact-led research by building strong, sustainable and collaborative relationships with its partner organisations, and the RSE will work alongside our Innovation Research Associates and other colleagues in the departments of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science to develop robust, reproducible, and sustainable software that enables interdisciplinary research that has real-world impact. Collaboration and communication are therefore central to this role. We especially welcome applications from candidates with a background in academic scientific research (particularly in mathematical or computing sciences) alongside excellent software engineering skills with a demonstrable ability to develop codes into products that can be used outside of academia.
The ideal candidate will take lead responsibility for the quality of the technical aspects of allocated research projects, contributing to the wider development of a leading technical research environment within the departments of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science. The post-holder will work proactively to develop software for a range of research activities and projects and will support the efficient use of faculty time and research funds by consulting on the development of optimised and validated software. The role will also focus on reducing duplication of effort by research staff by advising on the development of reusable software and will ensure adherence to relevant compliance frameworks.
If you are inspired by contributing to real-world impact and want your software engineering skills to fuel scientific innovation, this is your opportunity to work in an environment whose outputs have the potential to influence policy, industry, and society at large.
About You
You will hold a postgraduate qualification in a scientific field (preferably Computer Science, Statistics, or Mathematics) or have equivalent industrial experience. The ideal candidate will have a scientific research background alongside excellent skills in software engineering, collaboration, and communication. Your application should include a CV (with a list of publications if you hold a PhD), along with a cover letter identifying and evidencing your experience with as many of the following areas as possible:
