The Department of Materials, Design and Manufacturing Engineering seeks to appoint a new member of staff as a Lecturer in Manufacturing on the Teaching and Research (T&R) career path. We have invested significantly in Manufacturing at the University of Liverpool. Supporting our pioneering additive manufacturing research and teaching, our labs include state-of the-art metal 3D printers and instruments ranging from in-house developed test-rigs (process monitoring, laser processing) to industrial-grade machines. Research conducted within the Department has led to a recent spin-out company Atomik AM founded by Professor Kate Black, which is at the forefront of this change, offering a unique blend of advanced chemistry and engineering expertise to drive cost reduction, waste minimisation, and positive social impact within advanced manufacturing. Dr Esther Garcia-Tunon in our Department leads the School of Engineering’s Advanced Manufacturing and Materials inter-disciplinary research cluster.
We are now seeking to strengthen our advanced manufacturing research by appointing a Lecturer in Manufacturing Engineering with a focus on defence and security applications. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of innovative manufacturing technologies that support the evolving needs of the defence and security sectors, including areas such as advanced materials, additive manufacturing, clean energy and digital manufacturing. The appointee will join a dynamic and collaborative research environment and will be expected to develop an internationally recognised research programme aligned with national priorities in defence capability, advanced manufacturing, and industrial resilience. They will also contribute to teaching and curriculum development across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in manufacturing while supervising doctoral researchers and engaging with industrial and governmental partners.
Our commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
We are committed to enhancing a workforce as diverse as our community and particularly encourage applicants who are of minoritised genders and ethnic backgrounds, living with a disability, and/or are members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Interviews and presentations will take place on Tuesday 19th May 2026.
