Full time: 35 hours per week

THE POSTTechnician for Aquarium and Research

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Technician with special emphasis in the Aquarium associated research to join the school of Health and Life Sciences. The post holder will provide specialist technical support across the School/University and perform a range of operational tasks requiring specialist skills and knowledge.

The successful applicant will be involved with the set-up, day to day running, monitoring and data collection of aquarium-based experiments. This would also include demonstration of concepts and techniques in support of learning, teaching, research and enterprise activity in the subject area.

The role is Monday to Friday with a rota to cover weekends when required. When applicable, the aquarium requires attention 365 days a year, scheduled rotas may include weekends and Bank Holidays with renumeration provided where appropriate.

The successful candidate should have the following:

  • Educated to HND level in a relevant subject area or with equivalent experience in a similar role demonstrated through relevant and practical work experience
  • Experience of working with relevant processes, systems, and procedures
  • Demonstrable experience of managing a broad-ranging workload with challenging and competing deadlines and delivering to agreed timescales, using personal initiative and judgement where required evident in a similar role
  • Able to work collaboratively as part of a diverse and complex team
  • Professional and confident manner and the ability to work as part of a team as well as working independently
  • Exhibit a flexible attitude to change which will support the University in meeting existing and future needs.
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to delivering service quality
