Mary Immaculate College is an autonomous, university-level, Catholic College of Education and the Liberal Arts. Founded in 1898, and linked academically with the University of Limerick, MIC is the oldest higher education institution in Limerick. Significant expansion in recent decades has seen the College’s offerings expand across two modern campuses, one based in Limerick City and one in Thurles, Co. Tipperary. Mary Immaculate College wishes to appoint an Assistant Professor in Religious Education on a Full-Time, Permanent basis.
Mary Immaculate College invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Religious Education, commencing Autumn 2026.
The appointee will join the Department of Learning, Society, and Religious Education, contributing to a dynamic academic environment that engages critically with questions of belief, values, identity, and ethical formation in contemporary educational contexts. The successful candidate will teach Religious Education across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within Initial Teacher Education and related fields. They will contribute to research-informed teaching, supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research (including doctoral level), and engage in scholarly activity that advances understanding in Religious Education and allied areas. The role involves collaboration, across all academic departments within the College and engagement with schools, patrons, and wider educational stakeholders. The appointee will also contribute to departmental, faculty, and institutional initiatives in teaching, research, and academic development. Commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and scholarly engagement is essential, as is the capacity to contribute to a collegial, interdisciplinary academic environment.
