Position Overview

This Lecturer position involves research, teaching and service within the Department of International Relations. The successful candidate will publish high-quality, impactful research in peer-reviewed journals, academic presses, and policy fora, and pursue grant-funding opportunities within a world-class Department known for the support and mentorship that it provides to its early career researchers.

The role has been established to support the Department’s contribution to the Bachelor of Asia Pacific Affairs (BAPA), a dual‑degree program delivered with Ritsumeikan University (RU) in Japan. While based at the University campus in Canberra, the Lecturer will teach at RU’s Osaka Ibaraki Campus approximately every second year, with travel and accommodation provided.

Our ideal candidate will be an early-career scholar with a strong record of teaching and research in IR. They will have expertise that complements the Department’s strengths in the International Relations of the Asia-Pacific, Peace and Conflict Studies, International Relations Theory, Security Studies, and Diplomacy Studies. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic about engaging diverse undergraduate and graduate student cohorts, able to work collaboratively, and committed to contributing to the BAPA programme and the Department’s wider teaching, research, and service activities. They will have a demonstrated ability to develop a research agenda that advances the study of global politics. A demonstrated ability to supervise research students is desirable
