Technical Tutor 0.4fte
Design at Goldsmiths is about questioning. Our students develop critical, creative design practices which both challenge our understanding of the world around us and define new concepts for our future. The Design Fabrication Labs work closely with our academic programs to support our students in achieving the practical outcomes of their concepts and projects, providing a vibrant environment for them to experiment with materials and ideas.
We would like to appoint a Technical Tutor to join our team of dedicated Labs staff. Passionate about making, with experience of working within a practice based educational environment, you will hold a degree in a Design-led, material-based discipline and have a high level of expertise in moulding & casting. Reflecting the transdisciplinary nature of Design at Goldsmiths, you should also be capable of supporting a wider range of making across the labs, ideally in areas such as digital fabrication, general fabrication, image & graphics and textiles,.
You will be required to work directly with students, individually or in groups, to provide technical advice and promote creative thinking. You will guide students to devise clear and informed making strategies and be able to understand and contextualise their projects. You may further be required to devise and deliver Technical Studies modules to students which significantly raise their technical understanding, curiosity, competence and confidence in working with various material outcomes.
In addition, you will be required to take an active role in the maintenance and servicing of equipment and Labs areas.
This is a challenging but very rewarding role for an enthusiastic individual with a passion for empowering others.
This is a permanent contract: 0.4fte (2 days per week throughout the calendar year)
Closing date for applications: Sunday 26 April 2026
Interviews will be held: Wednesday 13 May 2026
Benefits
We have generous benefits – an agile working environment, 22/ 28 days’ annual leave plus 6 paid closure days (4 at Christmas and 2 at Easter) plus all Bank Holidays, great transport links, a defined benefit pension scheme, support for professional development and a broad range of wellbeing initiatives such as staff choir, running club, staff networks and creative writing classes.
