The role
The technical team based in the Biomedical building in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences is looking to fill two vacancies in our core technical team.
We provide core technical support to the Schools of Psychology and Neuroscience, Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences and the Bristol Medical school. We are looking to appoint two dynamic, hardworking and enthusiastic individuals to support the delivery of our core tasks. You will belong to a wider team of about 50 technicians but will be primarily based within a local team supporting core services for the research labs and in turn supporting scientists to deliver world class research.
What will you be doing?
You will be ensuring that important cores tasks are fulfilled on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. These tasks will include things like waste collection and recycling management, relocating and connecting gas cylinders and ensuring gas cylinder supplies, maintaining equipment such as organising and assisting with repairs, helping other teams in the building when necessary, assisting with lab equipment moves and helping to prepare lab spaces, supporting preparation of simple culture media for bacteria and fruit flies, managing stocks, ordering consumables, answering emails, and many other duties as detailed further in the job description.
Health and Safety is also an important part of a technician’s role and you will be expected to support and engage and support Health and Safety activities and promote best practice to all staff and students. You will also undertake training and development activities as required by the University and also additional job-specific training. You will also attend team meetings and other technical events like the annual Technicians Conference.
You should apply if
You are interested in a scientific technical support role in higher education and want to learn and grow your technical skills, you enjoy being physically active and hands on, and being part of a team and helping people.
You thrive in a busy, varied working environment and have excellent interpersonal communication skills, being able to communicate politely and courteously to many different stakeholders as required.
You enjoy routine but also easily adapt to unexpected demands as they come in. You have a strong attention to detail, enjoy problem-solving, and the ability to follow strict regulatory procedures and standard operating procedures - all of which are essential for success in this role.
