About the role

The Sociology and Criminology Department at the University of Sussex is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in Sociology (Education and Scholarship) on a fixed-term basis for one year. The role involves covering teaching and administrative duties during a period of research leave within the department.
You will contribute to teaching, assessment, and student support. You will convene two modules in migration studies, Migration and Integration (2nd year) and Migration, Identity and Home (3rd year), as well as contribute to other core Sociology modules, supervise dissertations, support students, and fulfil marking and assessment duties.
You will be strongly committed to high-quality teaching, supporting students, and contributing to a collegial department environment.

About you

You will hold a PhD in Sociology or a related discipline. You will have experience in teaching at university level. Ideally, you will have research expertise in areas related to the modules you will contribute to, especially migration studies. You will have good communication skills, a proven ability to support students and contribute effectively within our academic team.

About our School

The Dept of Sociology and Criminology a well-established and successful research-led department with a record of excellence in research assessment exercises and in teaching. We are home to 35 faculty and around 450 students at any one time. We have two thriving Masters programmes in Gender Studies and Criminology which both recruit between 15 and 20 students each in any given year. We have a diverse research culture and diverse research interests with clusters of expertise in the fields of ethnicity and migration, health, social class and social theory. We have aim to push the boundaries of research and of research-led teaching.
