Birkbeck, University of London, is looking for an experienced psychodynamic/psychoanalytic practitioner to join our teaching team in shaping the future of counselling and psychotherapy provision at the university. 

We are seeking a Lecturer in Counselling and Psychotherapy on a permanent, part-time contract (21 hours a week), to join Birkbeck's Centre for Counselling. 

Birkbeck's Counselling Centre is a centre of excellence for counselling and psychotherapy studies that has been offering a range of courses for students for over 50 years. 

To succeed in this role:

  • You will be a psychodynamic counsellor/psychotherapist or psychoanalytic psychotherapist with substantial post-qualification experience, some of which will be in a public setting,
  • You will have experience of teaching at HE level, including thorough knowledge of the range of pedagogical approaches appropriate to counselling/psychotherapy, including experiential and academic teaching methods, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level,
  • You will be able to demonstrate successful leadership of counselling and psychotherapy programmes or modules,
  • You will have experience of working closely with academic partners to oversee programme delivery and standards.

Salary and benefits

Actual £26,548 rising to £36,515 per annum, 0.6 FTE, 21 hrs per week. (Pro-rated £44,247 to £60,858 per annum, FTE.) 

Grade LLEC, quoted is on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.
