This post is part of the VERIFY project, funded by ARIA to investigate Early Warning Systems (EWS) for climate tipping points in the North Atlantic, working with Co-Investigator Dr Erica Thompson in UCL’s Department of Science, Technology, Engineering and Public Policy.
About the role
We are seeking a Grade 8 Senior Research Fellow (but willing to consider appointing at the Grade 7 Research Fellow level if necessary) to conduct interdisciplinary research on ethics and social values of early warning for North Atlantic climate tipping points. You will take the lead in bringing ethical and sociotechnical perspectives to the programme, and work on developing and disseminating influential recommendations for framing, communication and trustworthiness, and policy-relevance.
About you
You will have demonstrated expertise including a PhD in a relevant field (STS, philosophy/ethics, social scienc e, climate science, risk or natural hazards), and (at Grade 8) significant postdoctoral or equivalent experience of research and publication. You have excellent oral and written communication skills and an enthusiasm for engagement with non-academic audiences including policymakers. Awareness of and reflexive approach to ethics, values, research integrity, and the political context of research in a sensitive field, are essential.
