Main duties and responsibilities

The successful applicant will support students studying Adult, Child, Mental Health and Learning Disability Nursing, Midwifery, Paramedic Science, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy, Radiography, Radiotherapy and Social Work.  You will be responsible for the preparation of practical teaching equipment including, full-body manikins, part-task skills trainers, anatomy models and medical equipment both real and simulated.  This will include the operation of simulation equipment, medical devices and other teaching equipment during sessions.  You will also be responsible for the cleaning and tidying of equipment and facilities and the appropriate disposal of materials after sessions are complete. You will be responsible for monitoring stock levels of consumable items, and purchasing more stock and equipment as required according to the University procurement procedures.  You will ensure that all equipment is in good condition, safe to use and fit for purpose. You will also contribute to the maintenance of equipment inventories and ensure that health and safety practices are implemented and observed.

You will work closely with academics and other technical staff and have contact with both undergraduate and postgraduate students at all stages of their learning.

Skills and experience required

An articulate and good communicator, and a team player, showing good initiative and being able to work independently when necessary. You will be a problem solver with a can-do attitude with the ability to follow detailed instructions comprehensively and be flexible and adaptable to team and workload requirements. Good IT, numeracy skills and timekeeping are essential for this role.

You must be able to carry out work involving manual handling and heavy lifting. This is a very active role, and you will be expected to move full body manikins, hospital beds, and other equipment around all areas of the building as part of your day-to-day responsibilities.

Practical experience of working in a healthcare or teaching environment in a technical role would be of benefit as would knowledge of clinical teaching aids and medical equipment. Experience of clinical simulation would also be advantageous.

Qualifications required

Educated with a minimum of A-levels or equivalent qualification, or proven in service experience
