WORKING HOURS: 35 hours per week.     

LOCATION: SW1P 3HE.  Staff are able to work up to three days per week from home.

We are seeking a Database Administrator to join the Macroeconomics team, working with our world renowned NiGEM model.  The purpose of the role is to maintain the historical data for NiGEM database and support the macro-modelling team’s other data requirements.  

Key responsibilities are:

  • Update macroeconomic and financial variables on the database of the global econometric model (NIGEM) from a variety of sources.
  • Ensure that documentation of data sources is up to date.
  • Check the validity of updates.
  • Support the development of the database as appropriate.
  • Support the publication of the quarterly outlook (including creating charts and data provision).
  • Provide data analysis and general research support to the Macroeconomic Modelling and Forecasting team.

Experience  

  • Managing multiple competing priorities to meet strict deadlines.   
  • Working independently and as part of a team to achieve specific outcomes.
  • Using Excel at expert level to manipulate and analyse data.
  • Constructively challenging the accepted ways of thinking/doing things, and thinking critically to develop new idea, approaches, and ways of working. 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities 

  • Undergraduate degree in Economics (ideally with the focus on macro-economics) or Econometrics.
  • Strong numeracy skills.
  • High level of attention to detail, with the ability to ensure the accuracy of complex reports and data sets.
  • Some experience working with DataStream is desirable, but not essential.
  • Strong interest in real world economic and policy developments.
