Dr Maura Malpetti is looking for an enthusiastic Research Assistant to join her group at the Centre for Frontotemporal Dementia at the Cambridge University Department of Clinical Neurosciences. The post is part of a Race Against Dementia funded program to investigate inflammation in frontotemporal dementia and accelerate the development of treatments for dementia. To this end, we initiated a UK-wide Open Network for Frontotemporal dementia Inflammation Research (ON-FIRE), which involves data collection from over 40 sites across the UK. The study includes patient-based projects that combine fluid markers with clinical records, background information, advanced brain imaging and neuropsychological tests.
As a Research Assistant, you will help coordinating the network activities, site recruitments, samples delivery, optimization of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion across the network, and facilitate Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement activities. You will contribute towards the smooth running of projects based in Cambridge, being involved in recruitment, contacting participants, performing cognitive testing, collecting PET, MRI and blood-based data, supported by experienced scientists, clinicians and research nurses. You will also have the possibility to learn how to and analyse data on inflammation markers in frontotemporal dementia.
Experience in research studies of dementia or mental health disorders would be advantageous. You will collaborate within a balanced team with post-doctoral scientists, clinical fellows, research nurses and students to ensure efficient research activities across the centre.
The role will be full time in person and primarily be based at the Herchel Smith Building for Brain and Mind Sciences, Cambridge Biomedical Campus, CB2 0SZ.
Closing Date: 19th of May 2026
