This is a fixed term appointment for two years

The School of Public Policy (SPP) is an international community where ideas and practice meet, creating professionals with the ability to analyse, understand and resolve the challenges of contemporary governance.

We are seeking two LSE Fellows in Public Policy to contribute to our postgraduate teaching. An LSE Fellow is a career development post which allows aspiring academics who are post PhD, or close to PhD completion, the opportunity to gain experience in teaching and research.

The post-holders will contribute to teaching on two core courses for the Master of Public Policy (MPP) programme – Public Management (PP403) and Public Policy Applications (PP405). Post-holders will be expected to teach seminar classes and play a full role in marking, assessment, and supervision. They will also contribute to the preparation and delivery of MPP student policy projects as part of the PP405 curriculum.

The post-holders will play a key role in supporting the provision of a rich and engaging learning environment for our high-calibre and high fee-paying students. Furthermore, they will join LSE’s world-leading and vibrant research community, with substantial opportunities to develop their research and professional standing. SPP Faculty will ensure the integration of the post-holders into that research community, in which they will be expected to play a full part.

Candidates should hold, or be demonstrably close to the completion of, a PhD in a field relevant to policy-oriented teaching in either public economics, political economy or public management. They will require excellent communication and research skills, preferably with some relevant teaching experience. It is strongly desirable that candidates have some prior professional experience in a policy-relevant organisation. Candidates must also be able to demonstrate an ability to foster an engaging and supportive learning environment.

Candidates should provide a sample of their academic writing in their application, such as an article, working paper or a chapter of their doctorate

The role is available from 1 September 2026 and it is expected that the successful candidates will take up post on that date or very shortly thereafter.

We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave, hybrid working, and excellent training and development opportunities.

For further information about the post, please see the how to apply document, job description and the person specification.

To apply for this post, please click the 'Apply' button above. If you have any technical queries with applying on the online system, please use the “contact us” links at the bottom of the LSE Jobs page. Should you have any queries about the role, please email Jim Osborne (j.osborne2@lse.ac.uk).

The closing date for receipt of applications is 15 May 2026 (23.59 UK time). Regrettably, we are unable to accept any late applications.

An LSE Fellowship is intended to be an entry route to an academic career and is deemed by the School to be a career development position.  As such, applicants who have already been employed as a LSE Fellow for three years in total are not eligible to apply. If you have any queries about this please contact the HR Division.
