The School of Computing and Engineering is expanding its research and teaching portfolio to include Civil Engineering and is seeking to appoint a Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, or Reader in Civil Engineering to support the delivery of this new discipline.
As part of its aim to build upon its success in the Research Excellence Framework (REF2021), the School is investing millions of pounds to grow this new activity in our research-intensive environment.
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a track record in Civil Engineering research to contribute to our vibrant research community, alongside the development and delivery of the new academic provision.
With a doctoral degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field, you will hold a relevant professional qualification (e.g. Chartered Engineer) or be working towards Chartered status. Acceptable professional institutions include the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT), Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE), or the Permanent Way Institution (PWI), with a requirement to gain Chartered status within three years.
You will have a research portfolio and experience/expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Hydraulics or environmental engineering
- Structural or materials engineering
- Geotechnical engineering
- Transportation, survey methods
You will also have experience of delivering undergraduate or postgraduate modules, have effective communication and decision-making skills, and be committed to supporting the learning of students.
