The Department of Genetics is seeking a proactive and skilled Building Services Technician to join our technical support team. This is a vital role supporting the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and development of our building and facilities, helping to ensure a high-quality environment for world-leading research and teaching.
Working closely with the Principal Assistant and Facilities Manager, you will contribute to maintaining and enhancing the Department's building, services, and equipment, liaising with Estates Management and external contractors where required.
You will play a key role in the upkeep and smooth running of departmental facilities, carrying out repairs, maintenance, and minor installations, while ensuring compliance with safety standards. The position also includes supervisory responsibility for the cleaning team and oversight of essential building systems.

About you
We are looking for a practical, hands-on individual with strong problem-solving skills and experience in building maintenance or technical services. You should be comfortable working independently as well as part of a team, with good communication skills and a proactive approach to managing workload and priorities. Experience in facilities management, maintenance within a laboratory or technical environment, or supervising staff would be advantageous.

The Department of Genetics is home to 23 research groups and 167 staff and students, based across laboratories, teaching spaces, offices, and support facilities over four floors. Our research focuses on genetic approaches to fundamental questions in modern biology, with strong collaborations across the University and beyond.
