The School of Global Affairs at Lancaster University is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Global Environmental History. This is a 1.0 FTE post for 12 months starting on 1 August 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter, providing cover for a colleague on a Koch History Centre Junior Fellowship.

The successful candidate will be asked to contribute to teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate modules such as ‘Medieval and Early Modern Worlds’, ‘Human and Environment’, ‘Death’, and ‘Global Environmental History’. In addition, the candidate will make a more general contribution to History teaching programmes at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, for example by supervising dissertations. The successful candidate may be expected to assume responsibility for various administrative tasks and will be expected to play a full role as a member of the History community at Lancaster. 

About you

The candidate should have experience of undergraduate teaching and ideally experience of postgraduate teaching as well. The candidate should have an active programme of research. The successful applicant will be expected to have completed their PhD.

The candidate’s research and teaching should engage with global histories and non-European cultures and contexts, and we are particularly keen to invite candidates with expertise in the history of the early modern period, c.1500-1800.
