About the school
The School of Arts, Culture and Environment (SoACE) traces its distinguished history back to 1852 when the Cheltenham School of Art was established. Today, as one of the three constituent Schools in the University of Gloucestershire, SoACE currently has over 2200 students and offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as PhD’s in Humanities, Journalism, Film & TV, Art & Design, Performing Arts, Photography, and Architecture, Construction & Environment.
The History Team at the University of Gloucestershire has an established reputation for excellence in teaching, student support, and the student experience. This is an exciting opportunity to join a collegial and ambitious department where teaching is highly valued. We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic historian who can inspire students through innovative, research-informed teaching and who places student engagement at the heart of their academic practice.
About the role
You will be an enthusiastic and reflective lecturer who enjoys working closely with students, helping them develop as historians. You will recognise that excellent teaching and effective student support are central to the success of our programme and be able to create an engaging learning environment in which students are challenged, supported, and inspired. Above all, you will share our commitment to delivering an exceptional student experience and sustaining the department's reputation for teaching quality and student support. Our history degree is consistently highly rated by students. In the recent Times University League tables, the course ranked 7th for teaching satisfaction, and 10th for the student experience. Students benefit from small class sizes, close interaction with research-active staff, and a learning environment that encourages discussion, debate, and the critical analysis of historical sources.
The successful candidate will teach a range of undergraduate modules in British History spanning the Georgian period to the twentieth century, contribute to teaching in intellectual history, act as a personal tutor, and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research.
