Background
Birmingham Medical School is seeking to appoint three Associate Clinical Professors as Deputy Leads for the Introductory Clinical Course (ICC), a core element of the MBChB Curriculum 2030.
The ICC is a new course for first- and second-year medical students, introducing essential clinical skills that will be developed throughout the five-year programme. These roles offer an exciting opportunity for experienced GP educators to shape early clinical education and inspire future doctors.
Post holders will be based primarily within the Birmingham Centre for Anatomy, Surgical and Clinical Skills, working closely with the General Practice Education Team, the Interactive Studies Unit, and Clinical Teaching Fellows.
This is a clinical academic appointment; applicants must be practising General Practitioners with experience in the UK NHS.

Working with the ICC Lead, you will contribute to the academic leadership and operational delivery of campus-based ICC teaching. Key responsibilities include:

Interviews are expected in early June 2026. Candidates will deliver a 10-minute presentation followed by questions.
Presentation title:
Incorporating clinical reasoning teaching and assessment into clinical learning for first-year medical students.
You should critique best practice and propose a 50-minute teaching session for 40 first-year medical students, delivered by two facilitators, incorporating these principles.
