Are you passionate about shaping the next generation of eye care professionals? The University of Sheffield is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated University Teacher to join our Orthoptics and Ophthalmology team. You will play a key role in the delivery of our brand-new Orthoptics Apprenticeship programme, while also contributing to our highly regarded undergraduate BMedSci (Hons) Orthoptics and our diverse postgraduate offerings.

We are a supportive community committed to excellence in both pedagogy and research. We believe that by providing world-class education, we directly contribute to making eye care a better place for patients, clinical services, and the teams that support them.

Why Sheffield?
The University of Sheffield is a world top-100 university and a member of the prestigious Russell Group. We offer a competitive benefits package, a commitment to professional development, and the chance to live and work in one of the UK’s greenest and friendliest cities.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • An Inspiring Educator: You facilitate learning. Whether you are supporting an apprentice on the front lines of clinical practice or leading a seminar for undergraduate BMedSci students, you can make complex ocular concepts accessible and engaging.
  • A Champion for the Apprenticeship Model: You understand the value of "earning while learning." You will support our new apprenticeship route, helping students bridge the gap between academic theory and the fast-paced reality of clinical services.
  • A Multidisciplinary Collaborator: You thrive in a diverse "room." You enjoy the synergy of working alongside ophthalmologists, optometrists, and fellows, recognising that the best eye care comes from teams that learn together.
  • Patient-Focused & Future-Facing: You are driven by the big picture and believe that by improving education, we improve the entire healthcare ecosystem. You stay curious about new research and are eager to weave evidence-based practice into your teaching.
  • Empathetic & Approachable: You should foster a supportive, inclusive, and encouraging environment where every learner feels they belong.
