The Institute of Education at the University of Winchester is delighted to offer an opportunity to join the Education & Early Years team as a Lecturer in Education for a part-time, fixed-term cover of teaching and related responsibilities.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to teach undergraduate students on special and inclusive education, disability and impairments, neurodivergence, mental health, and/or other dimensions of inclusion/exclusion in education. We welcome applicants with emerging research interests that can contribute something distinctive and meaningful to the critical study of these topics relevant to education.
This will primarily involve our BA Early Years Education and the BA Education, which includes specialisms in Early Childhood, and Special and Inclusive Education. Our definition of education is that it goes beyond the classroom, to other formal and informal learning contexts throughout a person’s life. We approach the study of education through a range of cognate disciplines, such as philosophy, sociology, politics, history, cultural studies, etc. This may apply to classroom-based learning, to other formal and informal learning that occurs in schools or elsewhere, throughout a person’s life. Key to our programmes are the strong theoretical foundations, which students can apply to the study of education in the broadest sense of the word. We aim for our graduates to become critical, independent change-makers with a drive to do good in education and society. Some of our graduates may pursue postgraduate teaching degrees and become teachers, others may seek to work in educational settings in learning support roles, pastoral care and safeguarding, or pursue other career routes in social work, policy-making, etc. We pride ourselves in high-quality teaching, high levels of pastoral care and student support, and rigorous critical thought underpinned by theory.
The Education and Early Years tutors are a strong and thriving team within the larger department in the Faculty of Education and the Arts. While primarily situated within this team, the post holder may also contribute to other programmes within the Institute of Education, such as its Initial Teacher Training.
The anticipated start date for this fixed term role is 1 September 2026.
