As a Specialist Technician, you will provide professional expertise, guidance, and advice, contributing to the delivery of technical activities across the College. You will support student learning through informal/formal training and instruction, helping students to become proficient in highly specialist techniques, production methods and technologies.
The role also includes responsibility for the day-to-day running of specialist areas and facilities within the College, including the management and booking of 3D and Performance studios during and outside timetabled teaching sessions. You will work closely with the Technical Coordinator/Manager to ensure the safe and effective use of equipment and facilities.
You will also contribute critical and creative input to student projects and expressive intentions, providing feedback in relation to course learning outcomes and supporting formative assessments.
About you
To succeed in this role, you will need a BA and/or MA qualification, or equivalent experience in 3D Fabrication Design and Construction, with a background in the 3D industry as a maker and experience of 3D design and craft construction processes. Experience teaching construction processes within prop making, installations and prosthetics makeup effects for Performance, Fashion and Media contexts is essential.
You will be confident using and explaining specialist technical terminology, communicating complex and conceptual information clearly and appropriately to different audiences. You should also be able to use a range of methods, tools and equipment to achieve safe and professional standards of work, while actively developing and improving working practices.
