As a Senior Research Software Engineer (RSE), you will play a leading role in advancing computational research at Liverpool. Your software engineering expertise will enable researchers of all capabilities to productively design, develop, and maintain high quality research software and reach new levels of impact.

The role requires substantial research software development experience, with computational topic knowledge in physical or data science, engineering, or health and life sciences. Substantial proficiency in two of the following programming languages is expected: C/C++, Python, R, or MATLAB.

You will be adept in work across the entire software development lifecycle, and work closely with researchers to develop research software either directly, or via consultancy, pair-programming, code reviews, or longer-term research-funded partnerships.

Experience in parallel computing technologies and platforms is essential: from PCs and GPUs to high performance computing clusters. Experience with, or keen interest in, machine learning or AI is expected, particularly pattern recognition, object detection, generative AI, or agents.

You will run workshops and create learning materials to help researchers gain proficiency in approaches and software technologies for roles across academia and industry. Conduction of an engagement programme is also necessary to map local computational topic knowledge and expertise to further boost research.

Excellent communication skills, a passion for excellence in software quality, and a keen desire for continuous learning and emerging technology awareness are crucial. The role offers a fantastic opportunity to impact computational research at Liverpool.
