The Director of the Centre for Engineering Education and Skills is responsible for guiding the University’s education strategy concerning engineering apprenticeships, CPD, and practical engineering education on the faculty’s standard degree programmes. A top priority for the Faculty is to expand apprenticeship programmes and grow CPD. This involves close collaboration with industrial partners to offer market-relevant programmes aligned with student needs and that sustain recruitment from industry on a balanced basis. In this role, you will ensure top academic performance, nurture an inclusive environment, and achieve outstanding outcomes across the Centre.
The Centre will begin in September 2026, managing the nationally recognised Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre Training Centre (AMRC-TC), situated next to the AMRC and the Multidisciplinary Engineering Education (MEE) team housed in the Diamond building on campus.
As Director, you will provide strong academic leadership to these teams to ensure education of the highest quality. This includes meeting regulatory requirements such as OFSTED, professional bodies, and the University of Sheffield. Working in collaboration with the faculty and Central Apprentice Hub you will look to achieve excellence.
Alongside managing the current portfolio, you will work closely with colleagues across the Faculty of Engineering, the University’s Apprenticeships Hub, and a wide network of employers and collaborators regionally and nationally, you will develop an innovative apprenticeship portfolio up to degree level, covering all engineering areas.
To support this ambition, we are looking for someone with deep experience in engineering education who genuinely understands the opportunities the Faculty presents to strengthen and grow its apprenticeships program and is passionate about where the future will lead us.
