Applications are invited for the post of Departmental Lecturer in New Testament Studies, tenable from 1 September 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. This is a fixed-term 1-year position, and the role is jointly held between the Faculty of Theology and Religion and Mansfield College.
The postholder will provide cover for some of the duties of the Professor in New Testament and Early Christian Studies while she is on research leave. This lectureship is intended to develop the career of a highly promising scholar by providing opportunities for academic research, teaching, and collaborative work in the New Testament subject group. The Lecturer will be expected to play an active role in the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate courses and academic administration.
For the Faculty, the Lecturer will deliver lectures or classes for undergraduate or postgraduate teaching, in support of the following undergraduate papers: Introduction to the Study of the Bible: New Testament, Paul and Pauline Tradition, and Why Race, Gender and Empire matter for New Testament Interpretation. The Lecturer will also be expected to teach for the MSt and MPhil, especially through the supervision of assessed essays. A reasonable contribution to academic administration and examining will be required, in consultation with more senior permanent postholders. The Lecturer will also be encouraged to pursue their independent research and publish academic papers as a secondary commitment alongside teaching responsibilities.
