Part Time, Fixed Term - Research

Salary: £32,080 rising to £34,610 per annum (pro rata)

Approximately 15% of lung cancers are diagnosed in people who have never smoked. However, there is still little research aimed specifically at addressing the psychosocial and supportive care needs of thig group. The Oxford Institute of Applied Health Research is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified individual as a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant to work with a team at Oxford Brookes University on an exciting research project funded by the Ruth Strauss Foundation aimed at using participatory approaches to codesign intervention(s) to address the unmet psychosocial and supportive care needs of people diagnosed with lung cancer who have never smoked. With the team you will help to conduct and deliver this study which involves organising and delivering a series of online and face-to-face co-design workshops with people with lived experience, healthcare professionals, and other key stakeholders. This study builds on previous research conducted but this group. Findings of this study will be used to develop intervention(s) that can be taken into a larger funded feasibility study to improve psychosocial and supportive care for people with lung cancer who have never smoked and their families. You will have the opportunity to contribute to grant applications for this follow-on research.

This post is part time (0.5 FTE) for a period of ten months (September 2026-June 2025).

Applications are invited from individuals who have experience of qualitative and/or mixed methods psychology, health or social care research, excellent communication and time-management skills and must have completed, or be close to completing, their PhD or have a Masters degree with significant experience.

You will be contributing to the implementation and day-to-day running of the project. You will be working alongside other members of the project team and project collaborators. You will be involved primarily in coordinating the co-design workshops, recruiting participants, and collecting, analysing and evaluating data. The project is supported by national charities and has a multi-disciplinary study advisory group, including academics from other Universities working in this field of research, clinical colleagues, and patient representatives. You will have organisational responsibility for the project, but no direct line management responsibilities.

The ability to manage your own workload and to work as part of a team are essential.

The ideal applicant would have:

• A good degree in a relevant subject area and either close to completing or completed a PhD or a Masters degree with significant experience
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent organisational skills
• Previous experience of working within a psychology, health or social care research setting
