Description of Post

The PEAT+ project, led by Ulster Wildlife in collaboration with cross-border partners, focuses on restoring peatlands across Northern Ireland and Ireland’s border counties. This initiative integrates climate action, biodiversity enhancement, and community engagement to reduce emissions from degraded peatlands and increase their carbon capture post-restoration. It also aims to improve biodiversity, protect historical features, and contribute to flood prevention, water quality, and wildfire risk reduction.

This project is supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).

This role will lead on the delivery of the PEAT+ project objectives within Glenveagh National Park in collaboration with key project partners, Ulster Wildlife and NPWS. Key activities will include procuring the development of peatland restoration plans for high priority areas and procuring and managing the delivery of restoration action on degraded peatlands utilising external expertise and contractors. Act as operational manager between ATU, Ulster Wildlife and NPWS; keep plans current, in line with partners suggestions and issues visible.

  • Coordinate the day-to-day delivery of PEAT+ within ATU, ensuring activities, milestones, evidence and claims are delivered on time, on budget and in compliance with funder rules.

Essential Qualifications

  • A Masters degree (Level 9 or higher) in ecology, environmental science, earth/environmental engineering (or similar)
  • At least five years’ recent experience leading multi-site peatland or upland restoration in protected sites (e.g., Special Areas of Conservation or equivalent).
  • Due to the nature of the work: Full clean driving license and readiness to travel, with occasional out-of-hours work to meet seasonal windows.
