Abertay University is a modern, outward-looking institution with a strong regional and national role, combining high‑quality teaching and research with an engaging, practice‑focused student experience.
The postholder will be based in the Department of Built Environment and Life Sciences- Food Science and Nutrition Subgroup, which offers innovative degrees across civil and environmental engineering, food, nutrition and related disciplines, and maintains close partnerships with industry and external institutes. The department has an active research culture spanning food science and technology, public health nutrition, contaminants and processing, and sustainability, supported by well‑equipped laboratories, pilot‑scale facilities and specialist analytical and sensory suites. Staff routinely collaborate with industrial partners and research organizations, ensuring that research has practical impact and that students benefit from exposure to current scientific and technological developments.
Reporting to Professor Alberto Fiore and Dr. Kimberley Bennett, you will join this research‑active environment as a Postdoctoral Research Associate, contributing to the Horizon Europe EMERGO project on persistent and emerging pollutants in food and drink systems. Your primary focus will be on delivering high‑quality systematic review and evidence synthesis work, while engaging collegially with colleagues across the department and Faculty to share expertise and strengthen research–teaching linkages where appropriate (for example through occasional guest lectures, seminars or support for project‑based learning in your specialist area).
We are seeking an individual who is enthusiastic about collaborative, interdisciplinary research and who can communicate complex scientific concepts clearly to a range of audiences, including academic colleagues, students and external stakeholders. You will be organized and self‑motivated, able to manage your workload to meet project deadlines, and committed to contributing to the continued success and development of the Department of Built Environment and Life Sciences and its wider research portfolio.
