Quantum Science (QS) is pioneering quantum-dot materials for next-generation short-wave infrared (SWIR) sensing and imaging. Our technology enables compact, scalable and cost-effective sensors for applications across consumer electronics, automotive, industrial automation and machine vision. At QS, world-class materials science meets real-world semiconductor innovation.
Role Overview
Quantum Science (QS) has an exciting new opportunity for a Production Chemist with at least one year of experience in a related industry and a Bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline. This role is ideal for professionals looking to advance their careers in the advanced materials industry. You will have excellent training and development opportunities and take a pivotal role in the process development and production of colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) and other advanced nanomaterials for optoelectronic applications.
Main tasks and responsibility
- Plan and develop safe and cost-effective manufacturing processes for colloidal quantum dots in large reactors, scaling up from lab to full-scale commercial process meeting material demand of industrial partners and contractors in timely manner.
- Provide technical solutions and troubleshoot manufacturing issues based on the safety protocols and environmental and regulatory requirements to ensure best products at pilot and industrial production scale.
- Assess the equipment and facilities during the scale-up process including the maintenance schedules and overall equipment effectiveness to ensure an efficient utilization of the resources.
- Collaborate closely with R&D and scale-up team members for smooth technology transfer from R&D to pilot or full-scale manufacturing.
- Continuously optimise and develop existing and new product lines for improved quality and cost-effectiveness.
- Provide and document all SOP for manufacturing processes and testing techniques for existing and new products.
- Produce timely written reports detailing the work undertaken.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree (PhD not required) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
- Proven industrial experience in a similar industry is required; experience with multi-stage process development, reactor setup, manufacturing lines, and product scale-up is highly desirable.
- Laboratory experience in nanomaterial synthesis and characterization is an advantage.
- Strong practical, hands-on laboratory skills; confident working independently and collaboratively in a team.
- Flexible, adaptable, and willing to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Timely achievement of project milestones and agreed deliverables.
- Prompt, clear, and accurate reporting to the team leader.
- On-time delivery of samples to internal teams and customers.
- Identification and procurement of required equipment and consumables.
- Accurate completion of laboratory records, batch documentation, sample labels, and related reports.
- Consistent adherence to agreed plans, protocols, quality standards, and safety procedures.
- Effective time management, prioritisation, and communication when working to multiple deadlines.
- Proactive monitoring of equipment working conditions, laboratory, and process flow to ensure safe, efficient, and well-managed lab operations.
