Reader / Senior Lecturer in Digital Marketing

Manchester Metropolitan University – Department of Marketing, International Business and Tourism

Are you an established digital marketing academic or senior practitioner with a passion for teaching, professional practice and developing future-ready graduates?

Do you want to work for a student-focused, people-led and inclusive university that transforms lives, businesses and communities?

Then this opportunity could be for you.

With more than 11,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, the Faculty of Business and Law at Manchester Metropolitan University is a popular choice for students from the UK and around the world. The Faculty comprises a triple-accredited Business School—holding EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA accreditation—and the renowned Manchester Law School. Together, they deliver high-quality, professionally informed education supported by impactful research and strong employer engagement.

The Department of Marketing, International Business and Tourism is on an ambitious trajectory to strengthen its position as a leading centre for marketing education and professional practice, with particular strengths in digital marketing, consumer behaviour, retail, tourism, international business and place management. Embedded in the dynamic Manchester city region and supported by extensive global and industry networks, the Department is committed to delivering inclusive, relevant and future-focused education.

We are seeking to appoint a Reader or Senior Lecturer in Digital Marketing to join our established subject team. The successful candidate will contribute to our successful portfolio of undergraduate, postgraduate and executive Digital Marketing provision, supporting the development of skilled, employable and critically minded graduates. Appointment will be made at Senior Lecturer or Reader level depending on experience and demonstrated impact. We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with background on:

  • social media,
  • digital marketing strategy,
  • e-commerce, and/or
  • digital marketing campaign management.

This role sits on the Education, Pedagogy and Citizenship (EPC) pathway, with a primary focus on high-quality teaching, curriculum development and practice-based innovation. You will work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver contemporary digital marketing curricula, contribute to student support and personal tutoring, and engage with industry and professional bodies to enhance student experience and graduate outcomes.

We welcome applications from candidates with an academic background, as well as from senior industry professionals seeking to transition into higher education. A broad and current command of digital marketing strategy and practice is essential. Academic applicants will typically hold a PhD or a relevant Masters degree, while applicants from practice will demonstrate substantial professional leadership and impact at a senior level. All successful candidates will be supported to achieve Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. For appointment at Reader level, evidence of sustained impact in education, professional practice or industry is required.

Manchester Metropolitan University is proud of its diverse community and is committed to creating an inclusive environment where staff and students can thrive. We particularly welcome applications from underrepresented groups and support a range of flexible and hybrid working arrangements.

To apply, please submit a CV and covering letter of up to 2 pages, highlighting experience, achievements, and relevant skills via our application portal (available on our website, accessed by the 'Apply' button).

For informal enquiries, please contact Professor Riccardo De Vita, Head of the Department of Marketing, International Business and Tourism (r.de.vita@mmu.ac.uk), or Dr Costas Theodoridis, Deputy Head of Department (c.theodoridis@mmu.ac.uk).
